Need Help on ny speeding ticket?

hey, i recently got a ticket for speeding in ny. this is my second speeding ticket in ny within 18 months... my question is, do i NEED a lawyer to fight this ticket as im a college student and im really really short on money :( and if the prosecutor tells me to pay a heavy fine to get rid of the points.. would i still have to pay the driver responsibility essment fees?
