Why have my sippy cups started leaking badly?

I know that most sippies leak somewhat (usually the amount of fluid left in the spout above the valve). But I've noticed that several of my daughter's sippy cups are really leaking badly. They're Gerber Sip N Smile. I could just replace the valve pieces, but would it help? Do I need new cups?
